Troop 149 is located in High Bridge, and is currently charted by the High Bridge United Methodist Church. Our troop is a member of the Hunterdon Arrowhead District, which is part of the Washington Crossing Council.

For over the past 100 years we have striven to fulfill the mission and vision statements of the Boy Scouts of America. We've taught the scouts the importance of the Scout Oath and the Scout Law, as well as to try and incorporate them into their daily lives. Also, we've tried to instill in the scouts a sense of community, the importance of physical well-being, leadership, confidence, to love & respect the outdoors, and of course to have fun.

We are a very active, youth led troop that camps, hikes, bikes, canoes, and/or backpacks every month during the school year. We attend summer camp every year, and we take the older scouts on high adventure excursions over the summer months to better challenge them and keep them engaged. We also perform a multitude of community & environmental service projects throughout the year.

Attendance

As troop leaders we understand how busy people are in this day and age, even school age children. There's school work, extra-curricular activities, family obligations, sports, work responsibilities (both parents and scouts), etc. Sometimes it's hard to fit everything in. Yet, attendance at both troop meetings and weekend campouts is important to a successful scouting year for your child. Regular attendance will ensure that not only will each scout accomplish the necessary requirements needed to earn badges of rank in a consistent manner, but that they'll be able to take advantage of all the fun and educational indoor and outdoor experiences that the troop will offer them throughout the year.

Therefore the expectation is that as a member of the troop each scout will participate as much as possible in troop meetings and campouts. We understand that not every scout will be able to participate at 100% of the year's activities because no matter how we might try to avoid scheduling conflicts they will invariably happen on occasion. We just ask that everyone do their best to plan ahead and prioritize the activities that are available to them, whether they are for the scouts or not. We have the troop's activity calendar on this site under Troop Activities to help families plan their own calendars.  Please take advantage of this.

However, we are very flexible for scouts who partake in other extra-curricular activities and/or sports, or who need to complete their studies. Scouts who miss meetings and/or campouts due to other commitments will be excused. Please let the troop leaders know when you won't be attending so proper planning can be made. Keep in mind that making choices that may impact your scouts participation with the troop may also impact the speed with which your scout moves up in rank.
